"I couldn’t believe what I heard when they called my name as the new Miss South Dakota Teen USA 2010! I was shaking and nervous. I wasn't sure what I should do at that moment, it all happened so fast." Alyssa says on the night of October 18, 2009, after the life-changing moment that took place in Brandon, South Dakota.

Alyssa is a 15-year-old sophomore at Beresford High School, and lives near Beresford with her mom, dad, and younger brother. She is an avid dancer who has been dancing since the age of three, and has studied all types of dance including ballet, jazz, modern, lyrical, tap, hip-hop, and break dancing. She is currently dancing at a studio in Sioux Falls and her life ambition is to dance professionally for a modern or jazz dance company.

Alyssa certainly is not just a pageant girl - she is a tomboy at heart. Growing up on her family’s farm, Alyssa loves being outside with their animals, and likes four-wheeling and snowmobiling. Alyssa is also active in FFA and 4H. She shows livestock at the South Dakota State Fair each year, and also competes in Dairy Cattle judging and Natural Resources for FFA. In addition, Alyssa tutors elementary students a few days a week after school, assisting them in math and reading. In her free time, she likes to hang out with her friends, cruising around town, going to movies, and shopping.

Alyssa says she hopes to become the first Miss Teen USA from South Dakota!
